Posted by Caitlin Norton
This refreshing summer drink that will surely please kids and adults alike. Since each serving is only 30 calories, feel free to add an ounce or so of bourbon or vodka per glass for an adults-only version!
Here are four tips to pick the best watermelon in the grocery store:
- Look for a dull watermelon: A shiny watermelon indicated that it’s underripe.
- Find the yellow spot: Watermelons develop a splotch where they rest on the ground and when that splotch is creamy yellow it’s an indication that it’s ripe for the picking.
- Give it a thump: Tap the underbelly of the watermelon. A ripe one will have a deep hollow sound. Under-ripe or over-ripe melons will sound dull.
- Pick it up: No matter the size, a ripe watermelon will feel heavy and dense.
